Resources for Schools Overview

The Office of Language and Cultural Education (OLCE) provides guidance, support, and assistance to schools and networks on programs for English Learners (ELs) and world language programs. OLCE also provides professional development and working sessions for Instructional Support Leaders, EL Program Teachers, principals, teachers, and content specialists. Professional development and meeting dates are announced via direct email, in the online CPS calendar, and through the Teacher Newsletter. For more information, contact OLCE.

All CPS students have the right to a high-quality education. For English Learners, that right includes a right to participation in a program for English Learners in addition to the right to enroll in their neighborhood school, regardless of their familiarity with English. Parents and families also have the right to receive information from their schools in their preferred language.

The Department of Foreign Student Services (under the Office of Teaching and Learning) exists to:

  • Evaluate transcripts to award credits for coursework completed in other countries, and place students who are new to this country into the most appropriate grade level and courses
