By law, Local School Councils (LSCs) play a role in decision-making at the local school level. The primary responsibilities of LSCs include approving how school funds and resources are allocated, approving and monitoring the implementation of the annual school improvement plan, and hiring and evaluating the school's contract principal.
LSC 2014 Elections
On Monday, April 7, 2014 (Report Card Pick-up Day for all schools), schools with traditional local school councils will elect parent and community candidates to their LSCs and will select school staff candidates for appointment to their LSCs. Also on April 7, 2014, schools with appointed local school councils or boards of governors (military academy high schools only) will select parent and school staff candidates for appointment to their LSCs and, by April 23, will select candidates community and advocate candidates for appointment to their LSCs.
Make a difference, run for your local school's Local School Council. The deadline to file candidate nomination forms for the 2014 LSC Election is 3:00 p.m., February 19, 2014 at the Office of LSC Relations, 125 South Clark Street, 5th Floor, and 3:00 p.m., February 26, 2014, at the school where you would like to serve.
We are also recruiting interested individuals to serve as LSC Election Judges. Applications will be accepted until March 7, 2014.
