CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools announced today that it will propose three school actions for the 2017-18 school year, all involving schools that currently have zero enrollment.

Following a community engagement period, CPS intends to propose the following school actions, which would be voted on by the Chicago Board of Education in February 2017:

  • Marshall Middle School: This school year, Roosevelt High School, which has historically served the majority of students who attended Marshall Middle School, opened enrollment to 7th and 8th graders. Last year, 56 students enrolled at Marshall, and prior to the beginning of this school year, Roosevelt hosted community meetings, tours and conversations with parents, who expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of allowing 7th and 8th graders to attend the school. As a result of families transitioning to Roosevelt from Marshall, there were no students enrolled at Marshall Middle as of Nov. 1, 2016.
  • Career Academy (Formerly CSW Career Academy): Career Academy previously operated as a contract school and transitioned to District management this fall. As of Nov. 1, 2016, there were no students enrolled at the school.
  • Early College (Formerly Prologue – Early College): Early College previously operated as a contract school and transitioned to District management this fall. As of Nov. 1, 2016, there were no students enrolled at the school.
Before the Board’s vote, the following community meetings and public hearing will be held to allow members of the public to provide feedback for consideration:

In addition to the three school actions, CPS also announced it is taking concrete steps to advance the consideration of a potential merger between Jenner and Ogden elementary schools in response to a formal request by community groups. On the advice of community groups to delay any potential merger until the 2018-19 school year, CPS also announced that it will host three community meetings in coming months to solicit feedback from all segments of the community on the proposed merger, as well as allow time for the important work of community-building in the event there is sufficient community support for a merger. Community meetings will be held at the following times and locations:

Jenner/Ogden Community Meeting 1

Jenner/Ogden Community Meeting 2

Jenner/Ogden Community Meeting 3

Ogden EAST Campus

Jenner Elementary School

Ogden WEST Campus
