CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools today announced 13 Back-to-School Bashes for students, educators and families to come together to celebrate the school year ahead. Each of the events will feature food, music, games and allow families to learn more about GoCPS, the District’s new process to make applying to high school simpler and more equitable.

“Back-to-School Bashes bring communities together to help ensure that families have the support and resources they need to start the year successfully on day one,” said CPS CEO Forrest Claypool. “Our schools have made remarkable progress in recent years, and we look forward to kicking off another successful year with our citywide community-building events.”

Thanks to partnerships and sponsors, each Back-to-School event will offer a wide variety of music, food, games and activities for students to celebrate the upcoming school year. Activities and resources will include:

Performances from the Jesse White Tumblers
Appearances by local radio personalities
Medical vans offering vaccinations for students
Information on Medicaid and other programs for families

Back-to-School Bashes will also provide families with an opportunity to learn more about GoCPS, the District’s new streamlined school application process, which will make applying to high school simpler and more equitable. District representatives from the Office of Access and Enrollment will be on hand to distribute materials, answer questions, and help families create GoCPS login accounts using on-site iPads.

“Back-to-School Bashes will be the first time many of our families engage with GoCPS, and we look forward to speaking with students and families about our new platform to improve the school application process,” said CPS Chief Education Officer Dr. Janice K. Jackson.
