CPS to Host Public Hearings on Proposed FY 14 Operating Budget

Three Community Hearings Across the City Will Welcome Public Input and Feedback

July 29, 2013

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) will host three public hearings for the public and members of school communities to provide comments and feedback on the proposed operating budget for Fiscal Year 2014 (FY 14). One meeting will each be held on the north, south and west sides of the city.

“Last week we released a proposed Fiscal Year 2014 budget designed to close a historic $1 billion deficit, while protecting key investments in student learning. By reducing central office, administrative and operating spending, using one time reserves and other tools, we are minimizing the impact on our schools as best we can,” said CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett. “I strongly encourage the public’s feedback as well as their help to push for meaningful pension reform in Springfield so that we can continue to invest in providing every child in every neighborhood with the quality education they deserve.”

The meetings will be held simultaneously on Thursday, August 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at:

Truman College

Novar Hall/Room 3426

1145 West Wilson

Kennedy King College

Theater

740 West 63 rd Street

On Friday, August 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at:

Malcolm X College

Bruce K. Hayden

1900 West Van Buren

Sign-up for public participation at the hearings will take place at each location from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Each speaker will be given a number as they sign in and their comments will be limited to 2 minutes.
