CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools (CPS) announced today that the June meeting of the Chicago Board of Education will be held at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy High School instead of its usual location at CPS Headquarters in the Loop. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 4:30 PM.
“Following the successful meeting earlier this school year at Westinghouse College Prep, I am pleased to announce we will be holding our June Board meeting at another excellent CPS school,” said Chicago Board of Education President David Vitale. “Off-site meetings are valuable opportunities to enhance public involvement, and we will continue to seek out ways to effectively engage members of the community in their neighborhoods.”
The Board of Education’s monthly meetings are typically held in the Board Chambers at CPS Headquarters, which is located at 42 W. Madison St. The meeting at Brooks will be the second off-site monthly Board meeting in recent months. In November 2014, the Board held its monthly meeting at Westinghouse College Prep. The November meeting was the first off-site Board meeting since February 2004.
Brooks College Prep is located at 250 E. 111th St., Chicago, IL 60628. Registration for public participation and observation will be done in accordance with the Board’s standard process and will open on Monday, June 15, at 8:00 AM through the Board of Education’s website at www.cpsboe.org
Media interested in attending the June Board meeting will be required to present valid media credentials in accordance with Board policy.
Chicago Public Schools serves 396,000 students in 664 schools. It is the nation’s third-largest school district.
