Chicago Public Schools (CPS) today reminds Chicagoans that they only have one day left to purchase back to school kits for CPS students through Groupon as the Kits for Kidz campaign ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on Tuesday, August 7. As of 2 p.m. today, more than 2,000 kits have been purchased, totaling more than $39,000 in donations.
“By purchasing back to school kits, supporters can help students start the school year off right with the tools they need to succeed,” said CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard. “There’s still time to make a difference by joining thousands of supporters who have provided an invaluable gift to families across Chicago.”
Those interested in supporting the Kits for Kidz campaign can visit the Groupon website to purchase $11 back to school kits that provide students with a year’s worth of school supplies or an $18 option that will provide a kit and a backpack to a child in need.
Last month, CEO Brizard launched the 2012-2013 back to school campaign to increase attendance on the first day of school. School begins on Monday, August 13 for Early Start Schools (Track E) and Tuesday, September 4 for Regular Start Schools (Track R). Parents who are uncertain about what calendar their child’s school follows can call the school, visit the CPS back to school website at www.cps.edu/firstday or call the back to school hotline at (773) 553-3277.
Also, volunteers who wish to help out at the CPS back to school phone banks to remind students of the first day of school can visit the website or call the back to school hotline.
Chicago Public Schools serves 403,000 students in 675 schools. It is the nation’s third-largest school district.
