Attendance and Truancy

I Am A CPS Student / Parent / Guardian With Questions

Attendance matters! Being at school on time, every day makes the difference. Did you know...

  • As early as pre-school, Pre-K students who have low attendance are not prepared to succeed in kindergarten
  • Each week of absence per semester in 9th grade lowers the likelihood of graduating by 25 percentage points
  • From pre-school through high school, being absent has serious impact on long term success. Students who have strong attendance have (CCSR, 2013):
  •  Higher test scores
  •  A better likelihood of being on-track in high school
  •  A higher chance of graduating
  •  Higher course grades, increasing college acceptance and completion
