Attendance and Truancy

Attendance Goals

Chicago Public Schools has ambitious, but realistic attendance goals for every school and every child. Attendance is an effort of the family, the school, the community and the city. For a student to succeed, s/he must be present in the day-to-day experiences of a school.

With that, CPS has set the following attendance goals:

High School

  • For schools under 90%, increase attendance to 90%
  • Decrease the chronic truancy rate at the District, Network, and school levels
  • Decrease the chronic absence rate at the District, Network, and school levels

Elementary School

  • For schools under 95%, increase attendance to 95%
  • Decrease the chronic truancy rate at the District, Network, and school levels
  • Decrease the chronic absence rate at the District, Network, and school levels

Pre-K/PE
